Scallop Edge Dishcloth

(Crochet)

Materials:

1 ball Lily Sugar 'n Cream (100% cotton) -- I used Sugar 'n Cream Stripes in Lime Stripes

Size H hook

Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)

Ch 31

Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, *sc in each ch across.* (30 sts.)

Row 2: ch 1, sc in st, sc in each st across.*

Rows 3 - 33: Repeat row 2

Row 34 (shells around): ch 3, 3 dc in first st on left side of dishcloth, sk next st, sc in following st, sk next st, 4 dc in following st, *sk next st, sc in following st, sk next st, 4 dc in following st,* around entire dishcloth. Sl st in ch 1 of beg ch 4.

Fasten off.

Weave in loose ends.

Finished dimensions:

Approx. 9.5" by 9.5"

Crochet Time: 1 to 3 hours (depending on ability)

"Harambe" Baby Blanket

As winter is full-force upon us, I have been, of course, thinking of warmer days. This May will be my school's second annual Harambe (coming together). It is a mix of a school concert, showcase of talents, etc. that is held in a local park. 

It was in the spirit of the 2009 Harambe that I designed my own baby blanket pattern (albeit a very simple one) in Paton's Melody. This blanket will be worth about $200 and I hope for it to generate a lot of cash in the Harambe raffle. This money will be put back into the Harambe.

My Latest Crochet Items

I feel awful about hardly posting at all in the month of January! I have been busy, truly, I have been!

My projects started with the white sweater (third picture down), then the pink variegated sweater (bottom picture); both for myself. I then worked on a "Warm Winter Wrap" for a teacher at school who has cancer and very susceptible to the cold during her chemo treatments. I am quite proud of myself on that one: I finished it in less than a week!

I don't want to rant and rave about how things are going at school, so I won't. All I'll say is this: It's been very stressful and tiring. There, that's it. No more crying on my part!

Hooded Baby Blanket

Another project completed! I crocheted this hooded baby blanket for one of my teacher friends who is due in December. It was made from one ball of Lion Brand Pound of Love (White).  The edging is Bernat Worsted in Soft Yellow.

The stitch pattern was very easy but creates the look of a popcorn stitch. The hood was made by increasing the double crochet stitch row by row. The hood was sewn onto one of the corners of the blanket.

The pictures aren't the greatest; there's something to be said about taking pictures in natural light vs. incandescent light. :)

My next project (which I started last night) is a sweater, complete with pockets and buttons, as a Christmas present for someone in my family. I am using Caron Simply Soft Tweed in Off White and a "J" hook for that project.

Erika's Baby Blanket

My dear friend Erika (sister to my dearest friend Anna) is having a baby boy (Jackson Luke) at the end of September/beginning of October. I made this stroller blanket for her so that she can wrap up her new son on these chilly fall nights.

Erika's Baby Blanket was crocheted with 5 skeins of Lion Brand Baby Soft yarn. I used one skein of Pastel Blue, one of White, one of Lemon Drop, one of Bluebell, and one of Pistachio.

The hook I used was a "J." The stitch pattern was a double crochet in a wave pattern (6 dc, sk next 2 dc, 6 dc, 3dc in next st, repeat).

Next up on my things to crochet is, of course, to finish the iPhone case, and to start another baby item!  One of my teacher friends is due in December and I am going to make her a hooded blanket out of Lion Brand's Pound of Love (white) and trim in yellow.

Crocheted Skirt and Shawl

My crocheted outfit is just about complete! I finished crocheting the skirt this morning. The only things left to do are to sew in an elastic band, find (or have mom sew) some sort of fancy, shimmery tank, find a pair of shoes, and make my necklace and earrings (from the same beads I used on the shawl). I decided earlier in the summer to make my own outfit for a very fancy/formal wedding Pete and I have been invited to this October in Newport, RI. We still have to buy Pete a suit and, as you probably already guessed, it's going to cost between $150 and $300. He needs a suit jacket, matching pair of pants, tie, and shoes. Hopefully he can wear one of his dress shirts from work. I wanted to make my outfit for two reasons: 1. Just to say I did it and 2. To save money (which I did!).

Specifics

Shawl:

• The shawl is made from 6 skeins of Paton's Brilliant (Gold Glow), 1.75 oz.
  
• The pattern is a simple shell which was found on-line at: Anastacia Knits
  
• Once finished with the shell pattern, I added my own edging and attached 3 small beads to each edge "tip"
  
• The shawl measures 66" across the top (horizontal) and 33" from top to bottom (vertical)
  
• An "L" crochet hook was used

Skirt:

• The skirt is made from 4 skeins of Caron Simply Soft (Black 9727), 7 oz. and 2 skeins of Bernat Satin (Sable), 3.5 oz.
  
• The pattern comes from "Crochet! Magazine" July 2008. The pattern is the skirt portion of the "Sophisticated Shells Skirt & Wrap" pattern
• The skirt measures 33" from waist to bottom (skirt will be approximately 1"shorter once top band is folded over and the elastic is sewn in). The waist measures 17.5" (folded flat) and the bottom of the skirt measures 35.5" (folded flat).
• An "I" crochet hook was used
